Our dream home is now complete!

Having now been in the house for a few months, we have now completed the house!!

After a long journey which started back in mid 2012, we are happy to say that we love our house! There really isn't anything we would change. The design is perfect for us. The space, well, just perfect. Very happy :)

We have now moved into our new house and we are loving it!! It was well worth the pain!

Handover dilemmas

We went to the carpet place yesterday and selected another carpet. The carpet we have now selected is also out of stock and cannot be installed until 8 or 9 October.

We have spoken with our SS and have decided if everything else in the house is ready and the bank has approved the last payment, we can still do handover late next week. We will then have the carpet installed around mid October. This works better for us because we will have tradies coming and going after handover to install lights, built ins and blinds. We would rather all that is completed before the carpet is installed.

At this stage, our SS is waiting for the valuer to call. We cannot do much more until the bank is ready to proceed.

Carpet dilemma

We received a phone call from our SS yesterday afternoon to advise that the carpet we selected is out of stock until mid October. This will delay handover by possibly two weeks.

We have decided to do a re-selection this morning. If we do not find anything else then we will have to wait the extra two weeks.

Final progress payment received!

Guess this is it! We have so much to do before next Friday.

We are onto organising a valuation, a re-finance of our loan, vacation of our rental premises and quotes for fencing etc. . . and did we mention. . . a new car!! Nice present to go with the new house! Finally after so many years, getting rid of the old car and purchasing a nice brand new car.

In the meantime, the painters are finishing touch ups, shower screens are yet to be installed, tiling to some of the vanities are to be completed, carpet to be laid and final fit out of our appliances to be installed. Handover here we come!!

PCI

PCI was completed today! It took about two hours or so.

Overall, we must say that we are very happy with the house. There were not any major issues to raise with our SS. Handover is scheduled for next Friday!!!

While we were there, the stairs were being stained. The painters have also changed the wall colour to the stair void and dining area. The original colour on both walls was taubmans "blue lava". The stair void is now taubmans "oswego tea" and the dining is now dulux "sapphire stone". We are so happy with the new look!!!

Meeting with SS

We met with our SS today.

The tilers were on site. We had the opportunity to speak to the tilers about the change of tiles for our vanity backs. We also managed to change the walls in the ensuite to be full height. Very happy about this!!

Cannot wait to see this progress!!

Electricals done

The electrician has completed the installation of all light switches, light points, power points, ducted vacuum and the alarm.

The next major thing on the agenda is the tiling. Apparently, the tiler is due back on Tuesday as he is currently completing a Rawson display home.

Trouble with our neighbours!!

Both our neighbours are building with Eden Brae.

Both houses started after ours and they have been nothing but trouble!

First, the concreters decided to dump their excess concrete onto our driveway. Second, they removed our fence to erect their fence. Third, they have their fence leaning on our dining window and water tank. Fourth, the carpenters decided to use our power to erect their frames. Finally, the brickies decided to use our water.

Enough is enough. Another call to be made to Eden Brae head office tomorrow. Morons!

Tiling changes

After meeting with our SS yesterday, we have decided to change the tiling behind our vanities.          

We have decided to take the mosaics out of the shower niches and have the mosaics on all vanities.

In one day, we were able to pick the additional sheets of mosaics up from the suppliers and have them delivered to the house. All done!

Meeting with SS

We met with our SS today to see how things were travelling.

There were a few issues we covered but the most important is that our PCI will be in about two weeks time!

In the meantime, we will be making a few calls tomorrow to change the tiling to our wet areas. Essentially, we want to move the mosaics from the shower niches to have them behind the vanities. Hope it all works out!

Paint, paint and more paint

The painting is almost complete!

The feature walls need another coat so do the skirtings.

In terms of the stair void, we have decided to re-paint it to a chocolate colour and the wall in the dining to a navy colour. The colour there now looks awful!

Next week should see our kitchen and bathroom vanities installed!!

Getting a move on!

The painting has started! First coat has been completed.

The tiling to the floors in the wet areas has been completed.

We are hoping the week ahead will see us with our kitchen and vanities and possibly more painting.

Lock up!!!

We met with our SS today to do a walk through!

There is a bit of a hold up with the kitchen and vanities so hopefully they will be delivered soon so the tiling can start.

Meeting with SS

We met with our SS this morning.

The following things are going to be fixed:

(a) The damaged metal capping at the front of the house
(b) The crooked bricks at the top of the garage
(c) The crooked eave at the back of the house

The rumpus roof has been completed.

The insulation and gyprock will start today.

External features almost complete...



An update

Most of the bricks have now been cleaned. It is looking really good!

The eaves, gutters and fascia to the rumpus have been installed. The scaffolding for the roof is up so the rumpus roof should be completed this week.

The air condition fit out has been completed. It also looks like the electrical rough-in has started.

Two things we noticed while at the house yesterday; the eaves fitted to the rumpus is crooked and the brick work above the external garage door is crooked. Spoke to our SS this morning. He will have a look today and get these things fixed.

Not too far from lock up it seems. . .

Being picky!!

A few months ago we spoke to our SS about increasing the size of the porch step. We wanted it to span across the width of the porch. We also wanted it to be increased in depth. However, we cannot increase the depth as the footings are non existant. On that basis, it was agreed that we would extend the length of the step so it spans across the width of the porch.

One thing we are learning- if you don't ask, you don't get!

An update...

There hasn't been much happening on our house in the past few weeks.

Spoke to our SS today. Downpipes went in this morning and scaffolding will come down early next week.
